Superfast Broadband for Schools FAQs
What is it?
BT Lancashire Services are committed to providing the best possible services to our schools customers, and are pleased to announce the roll out of a new Superfast Broadband for Schools service. Using fibre optic technology to upgrade existing broadband connections, the project is designed to improve broadband to our customers.
What are the benefits?
BT Lancashire Services have ICT professionals with many years' experience that will continue to provide a dedicated network with a focus on education. Superfast Broadband will give schools an improved connection to the internet, with faster upload and download speeds, as well as secure access to the CLEO network infrastructure, new hardware and an improved overall user experience.
Why go with BT Lancashire Services Superfast Broadband for Schools?
BT Lancashire Services are unique in having many years' experience of delivering services specifically for Education customers. BTLS staff will manage your migration from beginning to end, working to ensure minimum disruption and to provide a smooth transition from your existing connection to the new enhanced Superfast solution.
Will my school be able to get it?
Unfortunately not every site will be able to receive this technology, due to the geographical availability of BT's current network. BT Lancashire Services have access to the latest superfast broadband rollout information from BT and will automatically deliver the new service to all those schools for whom this service is currently available.
What does it cost?
There will be no additional annual charge to schools for the upgrade to Superfast Broadband, it is included as part of your existing SLA Broadband bundle.
What are the next steps?
Superfast Broadband is being rolled out in a number of phases; we will contact you to arrange dates/times for a BT Openreach engineer site to visit your school to install a new broadband line. Once this is installed a second appointment will be arranged for the Superfast Broadband modem to be installed. We will, wherever possible, schedule this visit at a time that is convenient to you.
On the day of the installation it is important that you indicate to the Openreach engineer the location of your existing CLEO router as the new line should be installed as close to this as possible.
Will this work cause any disruption?
There will be a short period of approximately five minutes, when the network will be unavailable for users in school or those using Sun Global Desktop. This work will however be scheduled to take place after 9pm at night to reduce disruption. Once all the new lines and modems are in place BT Lancashire Services engineers will initiate a service migration from your existing service to the new service.
Is any additional equipment required?
As part of the installation a new modem will be installed by the Openreach engineer. It is important that the modem is installed as close to your current CLEO router as possible. Please ensure a spare plug socket is available for the modem.

Who will be installing it?
Staff from both BT Openreach and BT Lancashire Services will be undertaking the installation of the new equipment and managing the migration from the old broadband connection to the new Superfast one.
Will you need access to our school?
Yes, BT Openreach engineers will need access to your school in order to provide the new lines needed for this technology. If there are access restrictions in place at your school it is important that you let us know as soon as possible so we can pass on any information to the relevant staff.
How long will I continue to get this new service?
You will continue to enjoy Superfast Broadband as long as you are signed up to a Broadband bundle with BT Lancashire Services.
